Čiurlioniada: Organ Music Evening | Karolina Juodelytė Plays M. K. Čiurlionis Transcriptions for the Organ
“The 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis celebrated this year is a truly exceptional opportunity to take a fresh look at the composer’s artistic work, its discoverability, outspread and popularization.
M. K. Čiurlionis wrote very few works for the organ, they are small-scale and often do not reveal the composer’s comprehensive talent. However, the composer left most striking mark in his symphonic and piano works. The organ, often called a one-man orchestra, can impressively open symphonic and enrich piano music, giving it new colours. This is how the idea of this program arose – M. K. Čiurlionis’ pieces transcribed for organ. Several piano opuses have been transcribed by the famous Lithuanian organist of blessed memory prof. Leopoldas Digrys and by the organist Jūratė Landsbergytė, other transcriptions will be performed for the first time ever.” – says Karolina Juodelytė while introducing the concept of this concert.
This event is part of the concert series "Čiurlioniada. Piano and Organ Music Evenings". On this special occasion, the Center for International Cultural Projects has invited special guests and jury members, laureates of the various editions of the International M. K. Čiurlionis Organ and Piano Competition to the Lithuanian capital. In addition to the composer's own organ and piano works, the program of the cycle will also include premieres of the pieces inspired by Čiurlionis's legacy, explications of the fragments or just the themes left, improvisations, newly prepared and previously created arrangements, and the work of contemporaries.
Project is partly sponsored by: Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, Lithuanian Council for Culture, Vilnius City Municipality.
